Layout Modes

FlexiCalc has two main layouts: Vertical Layout and Free Layout. The calculation features are the same. The difference is how you want to organize the page.

Vertical Layout

Vertical Layout places formulas in order from top to bottom, so the reading path stays clear.

Best for:

  • Everyday continuous calculations
  • Budgets, expense records, and list-style work
  • Pages you need to review step by step

What it feels like:

  • Stable structure
  • Easier row reordering
  • Close to a traditional top-to-bottom calculation note

Free Layout

Free Layout turns the page into a canvas. Formulas and dividers can be dragged freely to different positions.

Best for:

  • Organizing many formulas into areas
  • Comparing different plans
  • Turning one page into visual modules
  • Pages that need stronger visual grouping

What it feels like:

  • Formulas can be placed freely
  • The page can be reorganized by dragging
  • Better for complex pages than for one straight calculation path

Extra options in Free Layout

In the current version, Free Layout also supports:

  • Mini map: shows your position while panning the canvas.
  • Keep formulas on one line: keeps long formulas from wrapping.
  • Pinch to zoom: makes complex pages easier to view and edit.

You can find these options in Settings -> General.

Switch layouts

Go to Settings -> General -> Layout and choose:

  • Vertical Layout
  • Free Layout

Which layout should you use?

  • If the page follows a step-by-step order, choose Vertical Layout.
  • If the page has many groups and needs visual arrangement, choose Free Layout.
  • If you only need to jot down a few calculations quickly, start with Vertical Layout.
  • If the page has become a complex structure that you move around often, switch to Free Layout.
